Dandruff
Dandruff can have various different reasons.
Psoriasis shows up as a sharply contoured area up to the size of a sovereign, the contours often follow the hair line. The scales are large. The patients do not feel unwell, but usually you can find flaky skin patches at other places( e.g. elbows, knee).
The Seborrhoic Eczema is characterized by large areas covered with flakes and simultanous reddening of the skin and inflamation of the hair fillicles. The hair looks dull and greasy. The patient feels a slight itch.
Neurodermititis consists of areas of reddening combined with a strong itch. The flakes are very small and the hair seems dry and brittle.
Mycosis can be identified by small round areas with slight inflamation, the hairs tend to break off close to the scalp. It spreads quickly, most often in small children, often epidemic in the community. Mycosis is caused by the yeast fungi Pitysporium Ovale.
Treatment of dandruff is performed according to the history of the ailment and may stretch over several weeks. To repress the infection lotions containing cortison are used in the initial treetment followed by scale inhibiting medication. Today a variaty of medical products exist to combat the yeast fungi Pitysporium. Your pharmacist will be pleased to provide advice. It is also recommended to reduce the amount of sugar eaten, as it promotes the growth of this fungus. It is also recommended to avoid stress, not to blow dry your hair too hot and to totally refrain from using aggresiv substances that can irritate the scalp.
